9/17/2023 0 Comments Superchips 3815 updateThe gas stations around here use 92 octane for premium. Overall I'd say it's a pretty happy healthy magnum engine. Stomping on it hard up to redline with premium gas and the 91 octane Superchips tune yielded no spark knock. The previous owner said he didn't know either, only that he had been running 87 with no problems. As for why there was 87 in it in the first place, I'm not sure if someone detuned the ECU before I got it, but it had never needed anything more than regular gas before I got the power programmer. When I first flashed it to the 91 octane tune I drove it quite a ways to a gas station with the 87 octane gas that was in it and accelerating at 2/3 throttle with it totally warmed up I didn't hear any spark knock except for maybe once or twice but its hard to say. I don't have any detonation issues going into this. I haven't been needing to top up the oil between oil changes but I looked down the TB after I had been running it last week and there is some oil residue and I could smell oil vapor. The Jeep is totally stock except for a K&N cold air intake, platinum plugs, and an MSD coil from the previous owner. ![]() I have it on the 91 octane performance tune but noticed you can also manually advance the spark timing in small increments. I just got an older Superchips 3815 Flashpaq tuner for my 5.9 limited.
